Our Sincerest Thanks: Captain Ron Duggan Announces His Retirement from the Shootout

Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Press Release

Since 1989, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout has swiftly evolved from a lighthearted ‘who’s the fastest’ free-for-all boat race into the largest, wildest, and most wonderful extravaganza that the worldwide boating community has ever seen. Down to the wondrous plume from the last running motor, our present-day unsanctioned races are far more than just a small-town claim to fame; these runs are history in the making as great things become even greater, and good times become even better.

As the years have passed, one thing has remained the same: it’s the heart behind the Lake of the Ozarks, and, subsequently, the Shootout. The absolute certainty of exhilaration and pure adrenaline mix powerfully with hundreds of thousands of spectators, and it is made possible each year with the help of its dedicated group of volunteers, professional safety crews, and, of course, its leaders.

Since 2008, Captain Ron Duggan has unwaveringly served the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and played host to this unparalleled event. He has led the Board of Directors with determination and a spirit for growth, jovial fun, and success for all. It is with the utmost and dearest ‘thank you’ that the Shootout bids him the very best in his retirement from the Lake’s largest fundraiser. Those who have served in his wake are eager to step up and do their best to lead as successfully as they are able from 2024 forward.

Taking the reins from Ron Duggan is none other than the Shootout’s former Vice President, Mark Maasen of Poly Lift Boat Lifts. He knows that he has immensely large shoes to fill and looks forward to serving the Lake of the Ozarks’ tri-county area in this new role.

“On behalf of the Shootout, I would like to thank Captain Ron for his years of support, and for bringing the Shootout to where it is at today,” Maasen said. “He has put in years upon years of hard work and immense effort, and we don’t want that to go unnoticed. The last few years have been the best that the Shootout has ever seen, and in very large part, we can thank Ron for that. We appreciate his leadership and hope he enjoys his retirement, and we also hope that he stays as involved as much as he would like to. His presence will be dearly missed.”

On behalf of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, thank you, Captain Ron.
